Captured in 1995, this image depicts what was the local Red Cross team in Kikwit, Zaire, during the Ebola outbreak in 1995. Zaire has since become known as the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This team went to the homes in the area to bring patients with suspected Ebola virus disease (EVD) to Kikwit General Hospital, as well as to remove corpses. Mortality rates range from 50% – 90% depending on the strain of the virus.
