This transmission electron microscopic (TEM) image reveals some of the ultrastructural morphology exhibited by numerous human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) viral particles. Note that the cone-shaped cores were sectioned in various orientations. The viral genomic ribonucleic acid (RNA) is located in the electron-dense wide end of each core.
