This photomicrograph of a lung tissue specimen, reveals the gross pathologic changes in a case of centrilobular emphysema, which is a characteristic change indicative of smoking. This close up of the fixed, cut surface, of the lung tissue, shows how the multiple tissue cavitations, were lined by heavy black carbon deposits.
