Caption:
This image depicts a colposcopic, intravaginal view of a female patient’s cervix, highlighting the presence of erosive lesions around the cervical os. This case of cervicitis was found to be the result of a case of herpes genitalis, due to the herpes simplex virus type-2 (HSV-2). Initially, this patient was believed to be suffering from a case of cervicitis due to Neisseria gonorrhoeae, which like herpes is a sexually transmitted disease. Note the accompanying paracervical purulency.
