This photograph depicts a close view of a patient’s skin revealing the presence of numerous perifollicular petechiae, the etiology had yet to be determined, however, it was believed to be due to either a vitamin C, or vitamin K deficiency. Perifollicular petechiae of the skin occur around the skin’s hair follicles, as the name suggests, and are small, i.e., 2mm or smaller, hemorrhages, which occur due to the frailty of the capillary walls.
