During a 1995 Ebola outbreak, these Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Zairian scientists, took samples from animals collected near Kikwit, in what had been the country of Zaire, but in 1997, was renamed the Democratic Republic of Congo. These animal tissue sample would be sent back to the CDC to be tested for the possible presence of Ebola virus. Note the personal protective equipment (PPE) worn by these scientists in 1995.
