Under a magnification of 1125X, this photomicrograph revealed the presence of a parasitic, Entamoeba coli trophozoite. Note the single nucleus with its characteristically large, eccentric karyosome, and coarse, irregular peripheral chromatin. The cytoplasm is coarse and vacuolated, referred to as dirty cytoplasm.
