This transmission electron micrograph depicts numerous, spheroid-shaped, hepatitis-E viruses (HEV), also known as Orthohepevirus A, which is a member of the Hepeviridae family of viruses. It was formerly classified as a member of the Caliciviridae family of viruses. HEV is a spherical, non-enveloped, single stranded RNA virus that is approximately 32 – 34 nm in diameter.
