This image depicts an anteroposterior (AP) chest x-ray of a patient who had presented with what was diagnosed as a case of histoplasmosis, during a 1962 springtime epidemic that had occurred in Hobbs, New Mexico. The radiograph revealed the presence of acute pulmonary histoplasmosis, with diffuse bilateral pulmonary infiltrates, which had been caused by the fungal organism, Histoplasma capsulatum.
