This 1978 image depicted an Oxoid Gas Generating Kit envelope, and 3 gas generating tablets, showing how they appear inside the envelope. After adding the requisite amount of water to the envelope, the sachet is then placed into the appropriate anaerobic jar, along with an anaerobic indicator. The jar is then sealed in an airtight fashion, while the gas generating tablets convert the jar’s interior to an anaerobic environment, devoid of oxygen, necessary for the growth of anaerobic microorganisms.
