This photomicrograph of a methylamine silver stained brain abscess tissue sample, revealed histopathologic changes, due to Actinomyces naeslundii bacteria. Actinomyces spp. organisms are opportunistic pathogens, usually seen causing disease only in immunosuppressed patients. Lesions involve long-standing swelling, suppuration and the formation of an abscess or granuloma.
