This image depicted a right anterior-oblique view of a patient’s face, which exhibited symptoms of an illness known as erysipelas, a dermatologic condition, which involves the inoculation of the skin and subcutaneous tissue with streptococcal bacteria causing edema and bright red erythema of the affected areas, as was the case here. See PHIL 24913 and 24914, for other views of this patient’s condition.
