Under a magnification of 1125X, this photomicrograph of a urethral exudate specimen, which was harvested from a patient with nonspecific urethritis, revealed the presence of neutrophils that were apparently phagocytizing bacteria. The intracellular diplococcal Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacteria, lead to a diagnosis of gonorrhea.
