This scanning electron microscopic (SEM) image depicted a number of Gram-negative, Bordetella bronchiseptica coccobacilli bacteria. This organism is commonly found to be the cause of acute tracheobronchitis in dogs, and only rarely causes infection in human beings, with a compromised immune system, including those who are infected by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
