Under a magnification of 100X, and stained using the hematoxylin-eosin (H&E) staining technique, this light photomicrograph of a brain tissue specimen revealed the presence of prominent spongiotic changes in the cortex, and loss of neurons, in this case of variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD).
