This photomicrograph depicted a number of Gram-positive, endospore-forming, Bacillus anthracis bacteria, the pathologic microorganism responsible for the disease known as anthrax, an acute infectious disease, which most commonly occurs in wild, and domesticated vertebrates, including cattle, sheep, goats, camels, antelopes, and other herbivores. It can also occur in humans when they are exposed to infected animals, or tissue from infected animals.
