This 1952 drawing provided by the Center for Disease Control's (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), detailed the wiring design of a Mine Safety Appliances (M.S.A.) electrostatic air sampler. In the 1940s and 1950s, the Industrial Hygiene Division (IHD) investigated hazards associated with many types of manufacturing activities. This design was an example of a measure meant to improve workplace safety by keeping vapors from escaping.
