This 1994 image depicted a woman seated in her wheelchair inside a kitchen in which the cabinetry had been ergonomically designed so as to accommodate the widest possible group of end users. These kitchen base cabinets easily converted into knee spaces critical for people using wheelchairs, as well as those with stamina or balance limitations, who must sit while completing extended food preparation activities. The woman in this image was getting ready to eat a honeybun, while seated up close to the edge of a kitchen countertop that had been designed in order to be more accommodating, allowing a wheelchair seated individual to pull close to the working surfaces, as seen in this example.
