This 1994 image depicted a kitchen in which the cabinetry was ergonomically designed in order to accommodate the widest possible group of end users. These kitchen base cabinets easily converted into knee spaces, critical for people using wheelchairs, as well as those with stamina, or balance limitations, who had to sit while completing extended food preparation activities. The cabinet design included retractable doors that could be slid underneath the counter, and rolling cart storage that could be removed, thereby, opening up the knee spaces, which accommodated wheelchair users quite comfortably. Note that the adaptable cabinet had been located in a place that would assist with both the use of the range, and facilitate in reaching wall cabinets above.
