Depicted here, was an intake vent for a whole house vacuum, otherwise known as an "automatic dustpan", which at floor level, facilitated the act of house cleaning, for those with a mobility, balance, or stamina disability. Such systems eliminated the need to pull a mobile unit, which can be difficult and cumbersome for many, even for those who have no mobility impairments.
