This 2005 image showed how a new, large, mixed-use development brought residential, retail, and office spaces into close proximity. Curb cuts, well-marked crossings, sidewalks, and accessible commercial and public spaces, made this an attractive community for pedestrians. In addition, apartments over the stores were accessed via elevators. Some of the other apartments in the complex had varying levels of accessibility as well. Most of the dwellings in the project, however, were impossible to enter if walking was a problem. People could visit and shop, but could not easily live there if ones mobility was an issue.
