Caption:
This 1996 image depicted a blind man, who was walking inside a mall with the use of a walking cane. Note that he was about to walk beneath a dangerously low staircase, providing minimal to no headroom. Because there was no warning as to the staircase’s presence, he could potentially crash into the underside of the stairs. These overhanging objects, or structures with inadequate headroom, are hazards that a person’s cane may not detect.
