Caption:
Transmission electron microscopic image of molecularly reconstructed 1918 influenza virus. The prominent surface projections on the virions are composed of hemagglutinin or neuraminidase glycoproteins. Note the dense envelope that surrounded each virion, with internal nucleocapsids which appeared as dots and contained the virion’s nucleic acid components.
