This 1950s historical photograph was provided by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). The image depicted the inside of an operating room suite during a surgical procedure. Following sterile protocol, the surgeons and nurses were all appropriately dressed in sterile garments, consisting of head coverings, gloves, and surgical robes, which are all still worn today.
