Description:Caption:
This photomicrograph of a Giemsa stained, touch preparation from the cut surface of an enlarged lymph node, revealed histopathologic changes in a case of a human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) infection. In this view, you are able to see a multinucleated cell, produced through cellular fusion, which though a product of viral cytopathic effect, is not diagnostic of HIV-1 infection, for this phenomenon can also occur with some other viruses as well.
