Magnified 100x, this photomicrograph depicted a number of cleistothecia of the fungal organism, Talaromyces flavus var. flavus. A cleistothecium is an enclosed, spore-bearing structure displayed by some fungi, which is able to release its contents of spores under the right conditions. The right conditions are those that would bring about the disintegration, due to decay, of the cleistothecium.
