Photographed while obtaining its blood meal, this female Aedes japonicus mosquito, also known as, Ochlerotatus japonicus, was a specimen of the Notre Dame colony. This Asian mosquito was first collected in the United States in New York and New Jersey in 1998. A. japonicus is also a suspected arboviral transmitter for the West Nile virus (WNV).
