This 1975 photograph, captured during Bangladesh’s Smallpox Eradication Campaign, depicted this young child, who had manifested a severe, probably fatal smallpox viral infection, exhibiting a maculopapular rash that was so dramatic, and the pustules so plentiful, that they began to coalesce on his skin, especially on his face.
