This 1981 photograph depicts the placement of two bioassay cages at two different heights, on the crossbars of a wooden stake that had been situated inside the geographic parameters of a bioassay insecticide study. A bioassay field test is used in order to determine the relative effectiveness of a given substance upon a given organism, or community of organisms, in this case it was a local mosquito population. These tests may be conducted on organisms that were acquired, either directly from the natural environment, or from colonies reared in vitro, or under laboratory conditions. The placement of these two cages, at two different heights, will better insure the capture of insects in the immediate area.
