From a lateral perspective, this illustration highlights some of the morphologic features exhibited by a mosquito of the genus Orthopodomyia. The included two inset enlargements, reveal anatomical details of its foreleg on the left, and on the right, a superior view of the insect’s thoracic region, revealed the details of its linear mesonotal markings. Some of the identifying morphologic characteristics displayed by members of the genus Orthopodomyia, include a forelimb with a fourth tarsal segment that is as long as it is wide, and shorter than the fifth tarsal segment, as well as the presence of a silvery, delicate mesonotal linear pattern on its dorsal thoracic surface, composed of iridescent scales.
