Shown here, during a 1976 medical evacuation in Zaire, suspected Ebola patient Del Conn is shown being transferred from a vehicle into a plastic isolator equipped with a HEPA air filter system. Mr. Conn became ill displaying Ebola-like symptoms while he was working with the Yambuku survey effort. Fearing that he was infected with the deadly Ebola virus, his medical evacuation from Yambuku to South Africa was ordered. Once in the isolator, shown here, the patient was then allowed to be air-lifted to a Johannesburg medical facility that was more suitable for his treatment.
