Caption:
This illustration depicts a dorsal view of a “body louse”, Pediculus humanus var. corporis (Lt), and a “crab louse”, Phthirus pubis (Rt). Lice are insects, possessing three pairs of jointed legs. The relative size of this ectoparasite’s legs, and terminal claws, are a characteristics that are often used to distinguish some genera from their closely related, morphologically similar cousins.
