This image depicts a close anterior view of a patient’s right eye, revealing a condition known as gonococcal conjunctivitis, due to the systemic dissemination of the bacterium, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, resulting from an untreated gonorrhea infection. This patient initially presented with gonococcal urethritis, which became systemically disseminated leading to gonococcal conjunctivitis of the right eye. See PHIL 16400, for the appearance of her eye 24-hours following treatment with 4.8-million units of aqueous procaine penicillin G (APPG) and probenecid.
