This photograph depicts a close view of a patient’s right eye, revealing the presence of a late congenital syphilitic ophthalmic infection known as interstitial corneal keratitis. This condition was caused by the bacterium, Treponema pallidum, and consists of an inflammation of the connective tissue structure of the cornea.
