This 1981 photograph depicts a close view of the insecticidal tank attached to a truck-mounted LECO-HD ULV (ultra-low volume) non-thermal fog generator. This model LECO-HD ULV fog generator delivered a non-thermal, cold fog into the environment, whereas, the thermal type of fog generator emitted a heated insecticidal fog in a much greater volume than the LECO model (see PHIL 6678). Fog generators operate in a number of modes. Some superheat an insecticidal mixture, thereby, dispersing it as a steam or fog. Others pass the insecticide liquid through an oscillation system, which breaks up the solution into a fog or mist. Or, as in this case, passes a high velocity airstream over a insecticidal mixture, creating an atomized mist that is drawn up and out through a nozzle.
