Captured in 1975, this photographed depicted what had been the Salisbury, Rhodesia, now known as Harare, Zimbabwe, Salisbury Youth Hostel registry, which contained the names of the two travelers that were later hospitalized with Marburg fever. Health investigators visited numerous hostels and campgrounds throughout Zimbabwe in hopes of discovering the exact route the two hitchhikers followed, while visiting the country Two travelers, who later became Marburg fever patients, stayed here during their hitchhiking excursion through Zimbabwe. It was suggested that the male patient, referred to as Case #1, was infected with the Marburg virus after close contact with a vector somewhere in Zimbabwe. No such vector was ever identified, as being responsible for initiating this outbreak.
