This image depicts a close view of a patient’s glans penis, highlighting a congenital malformation known as a distal urethral meatal diaphragm. In a male, the urethra is a patent tubular canal that runs from the neck of the urinary bladder through the penis, and ends at the exterior of the glans penis. It allows urine, and sperm to be expelled in an unobstructed fashion. However, on rare occasions, during fetal development, a membranous barrier forms, known as a diaphragm, which impedes the flow of both urine and sperm.
