This image depicts a close view of a patient’s penile base, revealing the presence of what was diagnosed as a primary vesiculopapular herpes genitalis lesion, caused by the herpes simplex virus type-2 (HSV-2). Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the herpes simplex viruses type-1 (HSV-1), and type-2 (HSV-2), however, most genital herpes is caused by HSV-2. Symptoms typically include one or more blisters on or around the genitals or rectum.
