Caption:
This atomic force microscopic (AFM) image revealed a gross thickening of the SARS Coronavirus infected Vero E6 culture cell’s cytoplasmic skeletal microfilaments (arrows) located just beneath the Vero cell plasma cell membrane. Though visible in the phase AFM phase image (PHIL 6421), this phenomenon is best viewed here, in the AFM height image, and the AFM amplitude image (PHIL 6422), which clearly show the cytoskeletal filaments parallel to the cell edge.
