This atomic force microscopic (AFM) image revealed a gross thickening of the SARS Coronavirus infected Vero E6 culture cell’s cytoplasmic skeletal filaments (arrowhead) and pseudopodia (arrow). Using the AFM hard tapping mode, closer examination of the virus-induced changes at the subcellular surfaces of the infected cells, thereby, revealing the involvement of the cell cytoskeleton during the late infection period, 15-hours post-infection.
