This scanning electron microscopic (SEM) image reveals the rosette-like appearance of the matured SARS-CoV (coronavirus) particles (arrows). See PHIL 10819 for a colorized view of this image. This image emphasizes the form and structure of the virus particles, or virions, made visible with negative staining (inset) under transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Short and stubby spikes are visible on the virus surface.
