These glass microscope slide specimens were used by Dr. Joseph W. Mountin, who played an integral role during the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) inception, and early evolution. After WWII, Dr. Mountin was directly responsible for transforming the Office of Malaria Control in War Areas (MCWA) into the Communicable Disease Center, which became an institution synonymous around the world with excellence in public health practice. This artifact can be seen at the David J. Sencer CDC Museum, on the organization’s Roybal campus.
