This infant had been suffering from a case of malnutrition, but pictured here, five months post-treatment, she was exhibiting a robust demeanor. This baby had displayed symptoms of kwashiorkor, due to an inadequate dietary protein intake. Symptoms included thinning hair, or flag sign, edema, inadequate growth, weight loss, and angular stomatitis, due to a vitamin B deficiency as well. See PHIL 6180 for the appearance of this child in her malnourished state.
