This photomicrograph of a liver tissue specimen, was extracted from a hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) patient. Note the high concentration of immunoblasts within the portal triads. These immunoblasts, also called lymphoblasts, are morphologically immature lymphocytes, i.e., more cytoplasm than a lymphocyte, finer chromatin, and usually two prominent nuclei.
