Caption:
This illustration depicts a dorsal view of an Argasid soft tick representative that is a member of the genus, Argas. On the right, you can see a right lateral view of the tick, revealing the presence of a morphologic structure known as the sutural line, which surrounds the tick’s circumferential margin. In the other genera of soft ticks, the lateral margin is rounded and the sutural line is absent or indistinct. The absence or presence of this characteristic is used to taxonomically classify various tick genera.
