This illustration depicts a close view of a capitulum exhibited by a tick, which is a member of the subclass, Acari. The image highlights the various mouthparts at this location. The capitulum is located at the anterior end of each tick. The mouthparts consist of a hypostome, usually bearing curved teeth, two chelicera with cutting digits, medial to the palpi, and palpi composed of 4 segments, whose length and shape may be used when separating the various Acari genera.
