Caption:
This photograph depicts a close dorsal view of an Ixodidae family hard tick of the genus, Haemaphysalis, identified by the lateral protrusion of its 2nd palpal segment. This view highlights the tick’s mouthpart morphology, which is often used when determining the identification of one of these arthropods. In the case of Haemaphysalis hard ticks, the 2nd palpal segment reveals a proximal laterally protruding protuberance.
