Description:This micrograph indicates pulmonary pneumocystosis due to Pneumocystis jirovecii, formerly known as Pneumocystis carinii using toluidine blue stain.
P. jirovecii is the causal agent of Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (pneumocystosis) found in the lungs of immunocompromised patients, and is a major cause of death in AIDS patients.
