Cradled under his mother’s left arm, this young Nigerian child was receiving a smallpox vaccination by way of a Ped-O-Jet® jet injector, during the World Health Organization (WHO), Smallpox Eradication Project, in 1968. The invention of the foot-powered Ped-O-Je, by Aaron Ismach, a civilian in the U.S. Defense Department, gave prospection team members greater field mobility, for the device was not dependent on electricity.
