Under a magnification of 586X, this 2004 scanning electron microscopic (SEM) image depicts a morphologic array of pollen granules, found on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) campus in Atlanta, Georgia, in the spring of 2004. Many of the morphologic traits revealed under such high-powered photomicrographic magnification, are used by botanists when taxonomically classifying pollen granules, and identifying the source plants of these particles.
